Kabilin-bilinan ng lola: The story behind 'Laklak'
Music has always been a huge part of my life. I spent the better part of a decade and change singing for a band. Before that, I studied music. Not in the sense of studying music theory or notes, but more in the sense of music and it's effect on culture. I was obsessed with finding out the meaning behind my favorite songs or how my favorite artists would write a certain tune.
Now, I'm not gonna sit here and act as if this is some new format. As the saying goes, "Don't light a match and claim you invented fire". But I am happy that we're doing this series. I get to talk to my favorite artists about my favorite tracks. Hopefully, some young musician gets to watch some of these videos and is inspired to write another great song.
This episode in particular is very special to me. I used to see Mike at gigs and he was always cool to talk to, but I really got to know him well during our time shooting Coke Studio. We'd talk about basketball and sneakers and, of course, music. I told him about my intention of shooting "Backtracks", and he'd always say, "Game na! Maganda kwento ng Laklak, men. Sinasabi ko sayo". Months passed and we FINALLY got to shoot the episode.
MAGANDA NGA TALAGA ANG KWENTO. Here is the story behind LAKLAK:
