Tales from the Set: Directing Baby Ads
One particular project that stands out is the Cetaphil ad. It was the first time I had the opportunity to work on a baby board, and I'll admit, I was a bit nervous when I won the bid. I had heard all the horror stories about working with babies – the unpredictability, the crying, the endless takes. I tried to prepare as much as I could mentally, but nothing could fully take the anxiety away.
However, when we arrived on set, any lingering nerves quickly went away. The baby we were working with was an absolute breeze to work with. From the moment we started rolling, she was just so charming and at ease in front of the camera. In fact, some of the shots that made the final cut were among the first few takes we captured during the shoot – that's how good she was.
Despite the initial anxiety, the shoot went smoothly, and we managed to wrap up by 2pm – a great time considering the number of frames we needed to capture. It was a refreshing reminder that sometimes, things have a way of falling into place when you least expect it.
As I reflect on these experiences, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to work with such incredible talent and dedicated crews.
Here's to many more adventures in the world of advertising, and to the magic of infancy that continues to inspire us all.In my career as a director, I've had the privilege of creating ads that capture the heartwarming innocence of babies for some well-known brands. From Pampers to Watsons. Each project had its own hurdles, but they were all worth it in the end.
