Sabrina Ionescu in Manila and My Daughter’s First Pair

My brother Allyn from Titan sent me a message:
“Zo, we’re sending a pair over there. But not for you. For your daughter.”

That made me so happy.

When the shoes arrived, my daughter opened the box like it was magic. She held them the way we used to hold our first real pair. With both hands. Carefully. Like they meant something.

And they did.

Because they came at the exact moment we dropped our SeamSports feature on Sabrina Ionescu’s Manila tour.

Sabrina didn’t just visit. She connected.
She ran drills with kids at the Nike Courtyard. She shared stories. She gave advice they’ll remember longer than any stat line.

“Trust the process. Keep working hard. The results will come.”

She told them to enjoy the game. To enjoy the moment.

“If she can do it, I can do it.”
That was written inside her shoebox. That’s the message that landed.

A lot of the kids watching had never seen a WNBA player in person. Some of them didn’t know they could even dream that big. But seeing Sabrina in the flesh changed something.

“Basketball is a religion here in the Philippines. But the women’s game is not necessarily celebrated as much as the men’s.”

Hopefully this helps move the needle. Hopefully more girls felt seen that day.

As a girl dad, this episode hit different. My daughter saw someone who looked like her. Who carried herself with confidence. Who could shoot from deep and still smile like she was exactly where she belonged.

And I know my son saw it too.
I need to raise him right. Not just to cheer from the sidelines, but to help make spaces like this safer and stronger for everyone. Especially for women.

Big love to Titan for the gesture. Big love to Sabrina for showing up fully.
This is what SeamSports is about.

The full feature is up now on YouTube.Watch it. And if you’ve got kids, let them watch too.
